Hip & Knee Pain

The hip joint is a ball and socket joint supported by a network of strong ligaments, tendons, bursa, and muscles, and therefore a joint of which caters for a wide range of movements. It is also a major weight-bearing joint which supports the upper body. Due to its wide range of structures, hip pain can be caused by various different conditions such as but not limited to; arthritis, labral tears, bursitis, impingements, and injuries to the surrounding muscles and ligaments.

The knee joint is a synovial joint which connects the femur to the tibia and fibula. There are four main ligaments which help to stabilise the knee; anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and lateral collateral ligament. There are also numerous tendons, muscles, bursa, and articular cartilage which covers the ends of the bones and facilitates smooth movement, and the medial and lateral meniscus' which act as shock absorbers. There are a number of conditions which can cause knee pain including but not limited to; injuries to the structures stated above, sports related injuries, overuse/strain, arthritis, and bursitis.

Grace Clinic Osteopathy can help you pinpoint, diagnose, refer (if further investigations are required), or treat you and your presenting complaint. The lower limbs will be assessed as a whole unit to assess your individual biomechanics and see how you are moving and functioning, and a treatment plan will be based on findings.
