Arthritis can cause a varying degree of symptoms, depending on severity, that can affect day-to-day life. This can range from joint pain, stiffness, inflammation, reduced range of motion, crepitus, fatigue, and muscle weakness.
Whilst this is common, the pain can be debilitating, and many people often forget that there are treatment options available outside of painkillers. Whilst osteopathy cannot cure the disease, it can treat the associated symptoms and help to ease stiffness, reduced range of motion, and pain. Strengthening any muscle weakness and muscles surrounding affected joints can also help to provide stability and support for daily activities. Gait assessment will also be carried out to assess how you are moving and whether there are any biomechanical compensations that need to be addressed to keep other joints functioning optimally.
In more severe cases, further referral may be necessary to x-ray the affected joints and assess severity of disease progression to provide the best course of treatment.
